Robert Bogtstra

Partner · EQA, Quality Improvement and co-sourcing

Robert Bogtstra leads the External Quality Assessment, Quality Improvement and Internal Audit co-sourcing practice at ONE Risk Advisory, the firm he co-founded in 2012. He is a Dutch chartered accountant (RA) and a Certified Internal Auditor. His career began in 1991 at Coopers & Lybrand, later part of PwC. He worked first in assurance, later in Global Risk Management Solutions. There he built the Dutch practice for reviews at European operations of US and UK companies. From 2002 to 2006 he was a senior manager at KPMG Business Advisory Services.

From 2006 to 2012 he led Jefferson Wells Netherlands as Market Leader and Director Risk Advisory Services. He has taught at Nyenrode Business University since 2009, since 2015 as a core lecturer in Corporate Governance. The Institute of Internal Auditors has accredited him for External Quality Assessments. With Nyenrode he researches the quality of internal audit; the Internal Audit Monitor grew out of that work. He has published on co-sourcing and on the standing of Internal Audit. That mix of practice, teaching and research shapes how he assesses an Internal Audit function.

Hans van Everdingen

Partner · Day-to-day leadership and client relations

Hans van Everdingen co-founded ONE Risk Advisory in 2012 and runs the firm day to day. He is the first person clients speak to about Risk Management Advisory and Internal Audit Advisory. With them he agrees what an engagement should deliver and who on the team will carry it out. He has more than twenty years of experience advising clients, mainly financial institutions and corporates, on audit, risk and finance. That work has given him an extensive network.

His career began in financial services, where he was accountable for performance and key accounts. He went on to sit on a management team and build a practice for risk advisory and finance management, serving financial institutions and corporates. Lasting client relationships were the constant in that work.

Jacco Maas

Marketing & Business Development Manager

Jacco Maas is responsible for marketing and business development at ONE Risk Advisory. He has more than twenty years of experience building and growing commercial organisations in IT, professional services and international scale-ups. His strength lies in flexible resourcing on projects and in matching demand with supply. He also specialises in applying AI to improve business processes.

Organisations with capacity needs in Risk Management or Internal Audit come to him first. Jacco clarifies the need and assembles the right team: in-house senior specialists and an established network of experienced freelancers, with no staff hired through agencies. That way every engagement gets the expertise the question calls for.

For clients with capacity needs, working with Jacco means a clear picture of the need and a team that fits. For freelancers and partners he is the link to relevant assignments, in a collaboration in which everyone's expertise is put to good use.

Etienne Herlaar

Associate Partner · Governance, Risk & Compliance

Etienne is an expert in governance, risk and compliance, with a particular focus on risk management and transformation. With an academic background in Finance, Information Management and International Management, he has built up extensive experience in senior management and risk management roles at multinationals in the Netherlands and abroad.

What sets Etienne apart is his broad view of risk management. He has worked across the different roles of the Three Lines Model, including first-line management, so he knows both the strategic and the day-to-day challenges organisations face. That is what allows him to translate risk management principles into solutions that work in practice.

His strengths include bridging the gap between business and IT and steering complex transformations through to completion. At ONE Risk Advisory, Etienne leads the risk management engagements and stays personally involved in delivering them. He also guides organisations through digital transformation and the effective use of technology in risk management.

Etienne is a team player who combines strong people skills with a positive attitude and a practical, results-oriented approach. He quickly grasps what an organisation needs and works with clients and teams to turn that into tangible results.

Thijs Smit

Associate Partner · Internal Audit Leadership

Thijs is a seasoned internal auditor with extensive experience in the profession. He was the Chief Audit Executive of six companies and has an international profile. Besides The Hague, Amsterdam and Utrecht, he has worked in Brussels and London, led audit teams in the Americas and Asia, and carried out audits on every continent.

Thijs is a member of IIA Netherlands, where he has served for more than 25 years as a committee member, board member and chair of the board. He spent seven years on the Quality Assessment Board, the last three as chair. He is an expert in carrying out quality assessments, coaching and training internal audit management, and performing audit engagements in complex and demanding environments. He is a Dutch chartered accountant (RA) and a Certified Internal Auditor. He served for five years on the board of the European Confederation of Institutes of Internal Auditing (ECIIA), two of them as president, and from 2009 to 2013 he was a board member of the global IIA.
